How do you imagine Gay Geeks? Bespectacled loners holed up in basements obsessing over elusive computer program codes? Gay Geeks are one of the most misunderstood tribes. Passionate and creative, Gay Geeks are interested and interesting. Additionally, they can be breathtakingly alluring. Why? Because intelligence is always sexy.

The term is often used in a derogatory way. Indeed, it's derived from ‘freak’. Picture an anti-social, boring weirdo. Everything a gay man is expected not to be. Firstly, forget the stereotype of the gangly geek with bad hair and even worse fashion sense. Secondly, dismiss the images in porn. Gay Geeks are much more than hot jocks with sculpted faces and washboard abs. Fantasy universes are far more appealing to Gay Geeks. And their obsessions take many forms. For some, it's Sci-fi, video games, or anime and cosplay. Others have meticulously deconstructed every scene in Breaking Bad. Others still can give you the minutiae on every actress who has played Norma Desmond in the musical Sunset Boulevard. But whatever their interests, Gay Geeks rebuff societal expectations. Their fascinations are high-minded and complex. And contrary to popular belief, brimming with personality and humour.

It is arguably only a question of semantics. But historically, a Gay Nerd is considered more awkward than a Gay Geek. Moreover, a Gay Nerd may be more rigid in his interests. These tend to focus on science, maths and computer-related areas. Gay Geeks may be happier to embrace popular culture. Conversely, a Gay Nerd is often seen as a solitary figure. But Gay Geeks love being social. So long as they find the right guys.

Social meetups abound. Additionally, many gay club nights celebrate Geekdom. Some gay bars even have video game consoles or board game nights. Crucially, Gay Geeks need to find people who don’t judge them. Consequently, they could find comradeship in the kink and leather communities. Both groups are outsiders.
