Getting started with live chat

On the new Gays.com live chat you don’t need Flash, but you may have to disable the pop-up blocker in your browser in order to display chat windows and member profiles. All you need to do is click on ‘Chat’ and you’ll gain access automatically. When you enter the chat you’ll need to select the room you wish to enter. Search from the room list on the right then double-click to enter. You can also be in several rooms at the same time. Type a message and send it by clicking on the ‘send’ button.

I can’t log in to the chat, what can be the reason?

It might take a few moments for the chat to load. However, if you keep getting a message telling you 'the connection is being established', try the following:

1. 1. Click on the 'page reload' button at the bottom of the window.
2. 2. Check that your firewall isn’t blocking the connection.
3. 3. Wait a little while to see if the server is simply overloaded.

How can I open the profile of another user and write private messages?

From the members’ nickname, select the menu icon and choose further actions from the list. From here you can write a private message, or arrange a video chat. You can also block a member from here should you need to.

TIP: With an @ before the username, you can whisper with other chatters without the rest of the chat room reading your message.

How can I start a video chat?

Easy! Start a video chat by hovering your mouse over the member you want to have a private chat with, from there select 'Video call'.

You can also put yourself on display for others to see. Just start your webcam. To watch someone give a public show, hover your mouse over the user and select from the option 'watch live video'.

How can I create my own room and invite people?

You must be a Premium or VIP member to gain access to this feature. Premium and VIP's can click the button at the top of the user list. After a brief moment, a window will open, showing all the rooms. By selecting and clicking ‘invite’, you can add someone from the list to your room.

How do I change the font and chat color - including my avatar?

Click on the gear icon in the upper right corner of the chat window. There you can set the font and color of the chat and your avatar. You can also make additional settings from here.

What can I do if someone is being disruptive?

Please report any being disruptive to a Chat Op or Chat Admin. Alert a Chat Op from the upper right-hand side of the page. The Chat Op will then decide what action to take and will always act in accordance with the chat guidelines.

How can I block someone?

Click on the member that’s bothering you and from the menu select "Ignore User"

Who are the Chat Ops and Admins?

Chat Ops and Admins are the people who look after the chat rooms and keep everything running smoothly. You’ll be able to spot who they are by the symbols before their name. They’re there to make sure that the chat guidelines are being followed. Feel free to let them know if you have any questions.

Who can kick out users from the chat?

Only the Chat Ops or Chat Admins can kick other users out of the chat.

Why was I kicked out of the chat?

If you were kicked out of the chat and banned, it’s most likely for the following reasons:

1. 1. You didn’t stick to the chat guidelines.
2. 2. You stopped other users from chatting, offended others or have violated the terms and conditions of use.
3. 3. You tried to send spam, advertise or other harassment.
