'And as we let our own light shine,
we unconsciously give other people
permission to do the same.
As we are liberated from our own fear,
Our presence automatically liberates others.'
Henry David Thoreau once said "Beware of all enterprises that require new clothes." I'm in violent disagreement - any excuse to dress up is good enough for me! I have a real passion for performance, and this often spills out into my life: I'm a lively conversationalist, and friends tell me I'm very positive, fizzing with energy, and fun to be around.
I try to make time to read as much as possible, and have wide interests: You are just as likely to find me discussing political science as the latest "Star Trek" movie.
I love to visit the theatre, and I adore music of all kinds: I'm equally happy in a jazz bar or an experimental orchestral concert. I'm a singer (tenor) and an actor, and have performed throughout the world in some wonderful venues.
I keep an active civic life - I volunteer in political campaigns, and recently returned from a service trip to help build houses in New Orleans. Finally, I'm writing a book about nonreligious communities in America.
