I have never been to prom but I was asked to go by one of my friends whose a girl. it's not a date or anything, she just wanted to show me what it was like. I am a butch and I havent worn a dress since I was 6 years old, and that is out of the question. but I also cannot afford a tux/ dress suit. the only thing I have are nice pants/nice shirts and ties. I need help..is that acceptable to wear? the school isnt strict on what you wear as long as it's formal I think.

Wear whatever you feel is comfortable. I might, however, give your school admins a heads up if you want to go in a tux, so that you can get a gauge for how they will react [remember, if they try to ban u, ACLU can step in]. Also, the polite thing is to somewhat coordinate your outfit with your date's, even though it's not a romantic date and u're just escorting each other.

slacks, dress/button down shirts are appropriate. You can dress it up with a tie or bowtie, or a jacket or vest. Or, if you plan on looking more casual, you can as well. coordinate with your date... u dont want to be more dressed than her, or less dressed.

Nice pair of pants and a nice shirt will be fine. Do not stress so much on what to wear because if you do you will worry way to much on whether you are dressed right for the occasion that you will not have any fun. I had so much fun at my prom that I can't even remember what I wore.

I am sooooooo jealous there's just not enough o's to express how jealous I am. Anyway, have fun and enjoy it! I didn't get to go. I was never a social person but I still wonder sometimes.... So yeah have fun and enjoy yourself. I'd probably want to coordinate at least little with my date if it were me, but not too much because that is just creepy lols! I mostly agree with just wearing something that's comfortable It doesn't have to be a tux or dress suit, just as long as it looks nice, maybe somewhat formal, and you are comfortable wearing it. Of course I've never had a fashion sense so take it as you will, lols. G'luck

no you need a tux or dress, you can rent a tux you don't have to buy one.
