International Day of People with Disability is marked today, December 3. It is an international observance promoted by the United Nations since 1992.

The Day aims to promote an understanding of disability issues and mobilize support for the dignity, rights and well-being of persons with disabilities. It also seeks to increase awareness of gains to be derived from the integration of persons with disabilities in every aspect of political, social, economic and cultural life. It was originally called "International Day of Disabled Persons."
Over one billion people, or approximately 15 per cent of the world’s population, live with some form of disability.

Persons with disabilities often face barriers to participation in all aspects of society. Barriers can take a variety of forms, including those relating to the physical environment or to information and communications technology or those resulting from legislation or policy, or from societal attitudes or discrimination. The result is that persons with disabilities do not have equal access to society or services, including education, employment, health care, transportation, political participation or justice.

I've always try to look at the positives and not the negatives. Focus on what someone can do and not what they can't.
A teacher at a special needs centre once said something that stays in my mind.
It's not bad or good it just is.
When you understand that you just make the best of things.

Thanx. We need to break the barriers...

I agree. There are so many disabilities, I often pause and wonder, is there anyone that doesn't deal with some issue that would get them slapped with a label. Labels are so often generalizations that make people judge others before they ever get to know that person.

So please stop judging in any way. Get to know the person for yourself.

I think we should all be aware that all people have rights.
Just because some can't speak out loud or vote doesn't mean they should be forgotten.
