As a 78-year-old man I've lived a life without goals or plans and have been very impulsive which has worked out great for me. There are things in life we don’t have money and/or time for, but if you don’t do it now, when will you?   Here is my bucket list of 30 things every gay man must do before hitting 30... well actually, it doesn't matter whether you're 20 or 80, the time is NOW, so whatever your age, you can still do all of these things.

I came out in 1948, when I was 12, so there is nothing you can’t do that I've already managed to. These are things that were on my list that I've done as a gay man (well, actually, I still have #4 to go) and I've not regretted a single thing, not even the bills I racked up in doing them, LOL!

1. Come out! Even if you're already out, there has to be a few people around you who still don’t know... or be really brave and take out an ad stating that you're ‘gay and proud’.

2. Attend the Gay Pride Parade in Sydney, Australia.

3. Go to Carnival/Mardi Gras in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

4. Go to Barcelona, S***!

5. Read 20th Century gay authors like Larry Kramer, John Rechy, Rita Mae Brown, Arthur Laurents, Harvey Fierstein, James Baldwin, George Chauncey, etc. All who made your life easier to live today. Work your way through this list.

6. Go to a gay nudist beach and let your bits hang out - they're all over the world!

7. Spend an evening at the Baths (saunas).

8. Spend Christmas week with a friend, a lover or even alone, in New York City and see ‘magic’ happen! Go ice skating in Rockefeller Center, visit Santa Claus at Macy’s, stroll along 5th Avenue, take a carriage ride in Central Park, walk and cruise in Greenwich Village...

9. See the plays by Terrace McNally, Oscar Wilde, Edward Albee, Mart Crowley.

10. Volunteer at a gay-related organisation that needs your help!

11. Watch classic gay movies like Longtime Companions, Torch Song Trilogy, Maurice, The Boys In The Band, Love! Valour! Compassion!, Querelle, Beautiful Thing, The Sum of Us, It’s My Party, As Is, Another Country.

12. Write a pro-gay letter to the editor of a newspaper or a magazine.

13. Go to the Canal Parade in Amsterdam.

14. Get decked out in drag or leather and feel how it feels.

15. If you're a ‘top’ be a ‘bottom’ one night or if a bottom, be a top.

16. Take a gay senior out on a date - with or without a ‘happy ending’!

17. Don’t discriminate against a lesbian or drag queen/king: get to know them. They will enrich your life.

18. Have sex outdoors: the beach, the park, in a car, on a rooftop, etc., but don’t be foolish.

19. Have a threesome. :P

20. Apologize to an ex or call him and say you’re sorry - even if you aren’t.

21. No matter how safe you've been, get an HIV test. It's essential to know your status.

22. Shave your 5 o’clock shadow or grow a beard.

23. Live in a different country - spread your wings and open your mind to new cultures and experiences.

24. Go on a picnic.

25. Have a 'camp' Bette Davis/Joan Crawford all day/evening marathon party and invite people who may not know them.

26. Go to a 'non-gay' strip club like Chippendales.

27. Go to a female stripping club.

28. Spend a day telling the truth 100%.

29. Don’t be judgmental of anyone who does any of these things.

30. Make your own ’bucket list’ and start emptying it now by doing things that you 'want to do someday’. Today is that SOMEDAY!

Number 28 is something I try to do every day these days, there are tactful ways of putting the truth! A good list. Its got me thinking! Can certainly vouch for the nudist beach, swimming naked is fabulous!
